- CIPS Level 3 Course Introduction
This unit is designed to develop an Understanding of the impact of the external national and international business environment upon the perchasing function in a range of different organisations and sectors.
By the end of this unit the student should be able to recognise the implications of the purchasing environment for a variety of organisations, in a variety of sectors, and have an awareness of business and commercial issues associated with achieving best value in the purchasing function.
This mandatory unit investigates the the objectives and KPIs laid down within purchasing functions and the balancing of the 5 rights but mainly in terms of quality, cost and delivery (or lead-time) considerations. Included within the basic principles of purchasing operations covered is a coverage of key activities such as Project administration and contribution to specifications, contracts and the process of sourcing suppliers.
The course examination is in standard CIPS format requiring students to absorb a 5-600 word case study and answer two compulsory questions on the case for 50%, followed by 2 questions of your choice, in a three-hour paper.
In this unit we will reproduce the whole of the official CIPS unit content document. It is designed to enable thoses who work in purchasing to gain a broad understanding of the key requiremnets of controlling the supply of goods.
Students should be able to contribute towards the assessment of stock requirements and assist in the scheduling of the flow of suppliers. By the end of this unit students should be able to understand the implications of effective scheduling of stock, and the importance of inventory control asa a method of improving efficiency while, at the same time, driving down costs associated with holding stock.
This Final Unit is designed to consolidate the learning from all four modules in the CIPS Certificate in Purchasing and Supply. As opposed to the previous four units, this unit maybe assessed through an examination (based on case study) or through a work-based project – see tutor.
This Unit is about applying knowledge and solving problems, rather than learning new topics, however the key learning outcomes maybe split into 3 main areas, and all materials are available from the previously studied four units.
